Back in the first part of the year, we studied Crime and Punishment. As part of our unit, we mailed a postcard to the New Orleans Police because of the devastation they suffered while we were studying law, police, crime, and justice. While we were in Houston on our trip to visit family over the weekend, my father-in-law gave us our mail that had been piling up there. In the pile was a large, brown, padded envelope from the Port of New Orleans Harbor Police Department. I had forgotten my son’s postcard which we mailed to them. Enclosed in the letter was a nice thermal coffee mug with a handle and the HPD logo. It’s the heavy hospital water mug kind that we love so much. I thought I would share with you their thoughtful letter which they wrote back to my son:

God bless you! Thank you dearly for your sweet, innocent prayers. I know they have reached God’s ears because each day, in every way, our spirits are renewed so that we can go on for another day.
It is the good will of everyday people like you and your family who make this nation great.
Thanks again, precious heart, and know that you will remain forever in our prayers.
Ms. Mable Jones
P.S. I’ve enclosed a little something to remember us by. Hope you like it!!!
