We went to the Houston Downtown Aquarium last year as one of the add-on field trips during THSC’s Woodlands Homeschool Convention. I love a good field trip; especially if they make it educational. This one was fantastic, because there was something for everyone – the adults, the teens, and the toddlers.
My three year old had a lot of fun. Here he is in the deep sea diving suit.
There were so many fun exhibits… like the Louisiana Swamp exhibit with gulf coast aquatic life. Particularly menacing was the gator that never lost eye contact. You could almost reach out and touch him… if it weren’t for that glass. Yikes!
They have a shipwreck with coral reef, a rainforest exhibit with venomous stingrays and colorful rainforest frogs… and a sunken temple with electric eel and a 20 foot long python.
We even got to meet a Gulf of Mexico deep sea diver that told us all about his “work”. What a fun job! It was so awesome talking to him while he was under-water in the tank through our tour guide!
The white tigers were so beautiful. I could have sat and watched them all day. We were delighted that they decided to wake up from their nap and walk to the window while we were there to say hello. What a gorgeous animal.
See little Koko there in the green shirt? He was so enthralled by the Tigers. And there he is below with his teen siblings taking a ride on the Ferris Wheel. Have you seen this ride as you drive down Houston’s busy downtown freeways? Such a fun spot at twilight with all the fading sunset behind the buildings and the tail lights whizzing by on the roads.
We also ate in their restaurant there – and although the food isn’t anything to write home about, the view certainly is! An entire wall-sized fish tank with exotic sea creatures swimming by as you munch on lunch.
… and we ate right after the dissection. Eeeeewwwwww. Thankfully they didn’t make us eat squid for lunch.
Want to see my first Vlog that I pieced together of 3-4 video clips from my husband’s Android phone? I finally sat down and learned how to edit it (which has been my hold up with posting about this event – sorry)! I’m no professional, but I had a lot of fun figuring it out and hope to make more movies in the future!
Here’s a little movie about our Downtown Houston Aquarium fun:
Maybe I’ll make another field trip flick after this summer’s trip to Moody Gardens with THSC! I’m hoping to be there this year as their photographer again and am looking forward to attending the Moody Gardens trip with my family.
Will you be there? Have you registered? To find out more about the THSC Woodlands Homeschool Convention and their fun “add-ons”, click the “Fun Add-Ons” section in the left sidebar after you hop over from this post.
{ I hope to see you there! }
